Report on "the State of Your Majesty's Plantations on the Continent of North America", 1721 September 8.

The report contains information on the boundaries, government, population, militia strength, and natural resources for the twelve colonies from Nova Scotia to South Carollina. The commissioners also discuss the benefits of increasing trade with England, and the dangers of French expansion and their alliances with the Indians. They submit recommendations for checking French encroachment, cultivating Indian friendships, and strengthening British control over colonial governments. Specific recommendations include a stronger defense of Nova Scotia and the removal of its French inhabitants; erection of frontier forts, intermarriage, fair trade, and treaties of alliance with the Indians; the assumption of the proprietary governments by the crown; a reduction in land grants; preservation of timber; and the placing of all colonial governments under one captain-general. The volume is signed by J. Chetwood, P. Dominique, Edward Ashe, and Martin Bladen. A number of tables on imports and exports are included.
